Acton is a small residential community located in the rugged Sierra Pelona Mountains. Acton is roughly 20 miles (32 km)northeast of the San Fernando Valley and 47 miles (76 km) north of downtown Los Angeles, California. It is off the Antelope Valley Freeway (Highway 14) near Palmdale.
In the 1887, this small community is the home of gold miners. There were two major gold mines in this area the Red Rover mine and the Governors mine. One of the miners is from Acton, Massachusettes, who eventually named the community in honor of his home town. Gold, copper, and titanium ore were mined in Acton's mountain side mines until the early 1900s. In the late 1880s, Acton started to become more of a ranching and farming community. To accommodate tourist who are coming in, the first hotel and its first saloon, the 49er Bar and Grill were launched. Other restaurants in Acton today are: Vincent Hill Station, French Cousine, Crazy Otto's Dinner Breakfast & Lunch, The Pizza Place Italian Food, La Cabana Mexican Food, Steak House, The 49er Saloon, Shanghai Chinese Food, and Pauls Place Hamburgers Bar.
Today, this community has grown with a 2,500 population. There are around 800 households, and approximately 650 families. The racial make up has 89.12% White. There is an estimated average household income of $89,860 and estimated median household income of $63,717. Thus, real estate is a budding business opportunity in the area. The town has a rural western theme which can be seen in its homes, commercial buildings, and historical buildings (some of which date back to the late 1800s). The houses in the mountain part of the community overlooks the classic look down the valley which showcases ancestral homes, and ranches. Most of the houses in the area have the classy, elegant feel which perfectly fits the community.Aside from businesses like real estate and restaurants, Acton also carries the basic amenities like schools churches and tourist attractions.
