Alhambra: Tranquility and Necessity

Life doesn’t get better than this, a serene city in Southern California with all your needs. Alhambra is a city located in the western San Gabriel Valley region of Los Angeles County, California. It is named after Tales from the Alhambra, a Washington Irving book, the city is incorporated in 1903. The name is actually the choice of the daughter of the first settlers who have built a house in what used to be a nameless land between the Arroyo and the Old Mill Wash. Water pipes are then built, thus the start of more residents coming in. It is a homebuilt within a city combined with tranquility and the necessities of life.

Alhambra has attracted inhabitants who have enjoyed Southern California’s small city climate of warm summers and mild winters with fair rainfall. There are now around 87,000 people who have made a home in the city. One important movement of the city was reached when a subdivision was built in the place of the old Alhambra airport, thus the budding of real estate in area. As of 2007, the median value of the house and condos is around 600,000, slightly higher than the state median. There are approximately 30,086 houses in the city; 29,111 occupied; 11,399 owner occupied; and 17,712 renter occupied.

There is another development that boosts the economy for the small city; the completion of the transcontinental rail line in 1873. Another is the Alhambra Hotel, at the northwest corner of Garfield Avenue and Boabdil Street, was constructed in the winter of 1886. This brings about the dawn of the main business district of Alhambra- at the intersection of Main & Garfield - has been a center of commerce since 1895. Recent establishments include dining, retail, entertainment and so many other. Businesses also include real estates and shopping centers.

This small city of Alhambra in Southern California is now a full service city. It has all the necessary establishments and more but still maintain the tranquility and the historical value of the area. There are three public high schools in Alhambra, two private high schools, and nine public elementary/middle schools. Ten private elementary/middle schools in Alhambra are also present. There are also colleges in nearby areas.

This quaint city also houses, several churches, parks and hotel, and just about everything big city have. Churches include Alhambra Christian Center, Alhambra Church of Religious Science, Alhambra Community Gospel Church, Alhambra Foursquare Church, Alhambra Friends Church, Alhambra Seven Day Adventist Church, All Souls Convent, All Souls Roman Catholic Church, Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses. And for the kids and kids at heart, there are parks that within the area including Moor Field, Alhambra Park, Almansor Park, Story Park , Joslyn Adult Recreation Center, Lindaraka Park, Granada Park. There are also other attractions in the area, like the Alhambra Historical Society Museum. There are also shopping centers, counting Alhambra Place Shopping Center, Alhambra Valley Shopping Center, Crawfords Corner Shopping Center.
