About Dana Point
" The most romantic spot of California Coast" , described Harvard-trained lawyer, seaman, and author of the classic sea journal, Two Years Before The Mast, Richard Henry Dana, Jr. (1815-1882), during his voyage on the merchant ship, Pilgrim, of an area then known as Capistrano Bay. It was changed into its present name after him and was incorporated in January 1989.
Dana Point is found in the southern Orange County, approximately halfway between San Diego and Los Angeles. It covers 6.5 square miles and populated by 35,110 residents.

Dana Point boasts many attractions, most of which have something to do with the their nearly 7 miles of coastal bluffs, rolling hills, wild surfs and enchanting beaches.
The Ocean Institute. Founded in 1977, a non-profit educational organization dedicated to educating people about the ocean and its preservation. The Institute owns and operates the Research Vessel Sea Explorer, the Spirit of Dana Point and the brig, Pilgrim.
Salt Creek Beach Park. Most popular to surfers. Both beach and upland facilities are accessible through the Ritz Carlton Dr.
Dana Point Harbor. Anchors over 2,500 boats within its one and a half mile jetty. Also popular for its sportfishing vessels, which are owned and operated by Dana Wharf Sportfishing , for charter.
Doheny State Beach. The California Department of Parks and Recreation administers this 62-acre site of over a mile of sandy beach, best surfing and swimming spots and campgrounds. It has 120 developed family campsites, 170 picnic tables and 99 barbecue grills.
