This community was established in 1871 by founders Alfred B. Chapman and Andrew Glassell. When Richland applied for a post office in 1873 and was refused because there already has place with that name, residents decided to change it. According to one legend it was decided over a game of poker. Richland was renamed Orange on January 19875.

Orange City is situated in the north-central part of the Orange County. It has an estimated population of 137,801 as of January 2006 spread across 24.2 squire miles. It was incorporated on April 6, 1888. It is nicknamed Plaza City.

The City enjoys an average of 44% of clear days in a year. Average high temperature of 82.7° is experienced in July and average low is of 46.6° in January. Rain falls an average of 13.8 inches annually.
