About Stanton

Before 1911, the area was known as Benedict but when Philip Stanton aided the ranchers against the proposed putting up of sewage farm there, it was said that it was renamed after him, although there are conflicting stories about this.

 

It was incorporated first in May 1911 but the residents had it disincorporated to allow State to construct roads through the area and had it incorporated again in 1956.

 

Stanton has only 3.1 square miles total area and about 37,661 residents. The warmest month of the year is August with 84.2° average high temperature, while the coldest month of the year is December 46°F average low. The annual average precipitation 13.8 inches and is fairly evenly distributed throughout the year.

 

In 1987, Stanton changed its long time motto “Crossroads To Vacationland” to

"Community Pride & Forward Vision"
